Conroy magic keeps Davitts on roll

Davitts (Mayo) 1-13 P Pearses (Roscommon) 0-8

Michael Conroy's wizardry ensured that Mayo champions Davitts' magical year continued in Kiltoom on Saturday.

The captain and corner-forward kicked seven points over the hour, including three sublime efforts from play. Indeed, the Davitts full-forward line were a potent threat throughout, with Aiden McTigue and full-forward Fergal McGrath adding two points apiece.

Roscommon champions Padraig Pearses were game opposition during the opening half but a whirlwind opening from Davitts put them 0-7 to 0-3 ahead after 23 minutes.

Pearses responded, however, led by the excellent Niall Daly, with points from Niall Finneran, Paul Moran and Aaron Feehily, to level proceedings. But there was still time for Conroy to point an audacious free from the right sideline to give his side a 0-8 to 0-7 lead at the break.

The scene seemed set for a grandstand second half but a Michael Duignan free in the 33rd minute was all Pearses had to show for their efforts as Ronan McNamara's fortuitous goal from a free six minutes from time helped Davitts to a comfortable victory.
