The returning Steven Clynch accounted for 12 points as Meath went on a scoring spree at St Loman's Park, Trim yesterday.
Clynch had been plagued by injury for the best part of 18 months but returned to the starting line-up with a bang as the Royals bounced back from the shock defeat to Mayo.
In the absence of the injured Jack Regan, Clynch took over the free-taking responsibilities and half of his tally came courtesy of placed balls.
Sean McVeigh pointed the visitors ahead but it was all Meath after Adam Gannon found the net on four minutes.
The home side piled on the scores and at the interval led 1-19 to 0-4. Sean McVeigh got three of Donegal's points.
Donegal were denied a goal on 50 minutes when keeper Shane McGann made a terrific save to deny Sam Doherty at the expense of a '65', which was converted by Lee Henderson.
Substitute Luke Martyn was on the field less than a minute when he accounted for Meath's second goal 62 minutes.
Kilmacud Crokes man Tom Clarke was also in excellent shooting form in the winners' attack and finished with six points.
Henderson top-scored for Donegal, who are still seeking their first win of the campaign, with five points.
