Cleary helps Miltown end 25-year wait
St Josephs Miltown 0-13 Cooraclare 0-9
St Josephs Miltown were crowned county champions for the 13th time in their history and first time since 1990 at Cusack Park, Ennis yesterday.
Cooraclare never managed to get ahead and had a man sent off in the dying moments.
Although Miltown were wasteful in front of goal at times - they hit 10 wides overall - they were the better side from the off.
Josephs then opened up a 0-7 to 0-4 lead by the 20th minute before Donnelly and Thomas Downes contrived to kick two fine points, putting Cooraclare one behind (0-7 to 0-6), once more.
Cleary pointed from a 40m free in injury-time to leave Miltown 0-8 to 0-6 ahead at the break. Shortly after half-time Cooraclare drew level with a pair of scores by Damien Burke and 17-year-old substitute Jack Morrissey.
But Miltown pulled away in the final quarter with good scores by Cleary, Joe Curtin, Keavey and Kieran Malone.
Donnelly for Cooraclare pulled back a point as the game entered injury-time making it 0-12 to 0-9.
Lillis saw red for an off-the-ball incident.
And when Miltown were awarded a penalty deep into time-added on, Cleary wisely opted to drive it over the bar to clinch the tie.
