When Conal O Se struck for a seventh minute Carlow goal, it looked as if the crowd were set for a close contest in this game at Dr Cullen Park last night.

It proved to be a false dawn, however, as Carlow made a litany of mistakes to hand the initiative back to their Longford visitors.

Shane Kenny and David McGivney dominated at midfield, but no one did better than Longford's corner forward, Robbie Clarke, who scored two goals, giving his side a 3-8 to 1-1 lead at the break. Carlow fought back, but Longford had too much in hand.
