Cavan-Tyrone fans angry at late postponement
Meath referee David Gough said he had no option but to call off yesterday's Division 1 clash between Tyrone and Cavan due to concerns over player safety at Healy Park.
But there was anger at the Omagh venue at the short notice of the postponement, the decision coming just an hour before the scheduled throw-in.
Supporters of both counties had arrived, and the Cavan team was also pitch-side, when Gough began his inspection at 1.22pm.
Four minutes later he had declared the pitch unplayable.
"I walked the length of the pitch, and there's at least seven visible puddles on it but about 40 per cent of the pitch is under water," he said.
"It's what you can't see is just as dangerous as what is there, so it would be unsafe for any of the players to be playing on it," he added.
"The safety of the players is paramount."
The game is likely to be re-fixed for the weekend of March 11/12, the only free date in the schedule.
