With a blustery wind at their backs, Rockcorry went in 1-6 to 0-2 ahead at the break. Mark McGuirk scored their stunning goal, with their six points shared by five players.

Derry champions Faughanvale had carved out three goal chances, through Aaron Cassidy, Odhran McKinney and Eunan Murray - all of which were saved.

They needed a good start to the second half to have hope, and they took the game to the Monaghan champions, hitting three of the next four points, with the inspirational Martin McGuinness kicking two of them.

However, Rockcorry sucked up the pressure and countered to hit the decisive score of the game when Fergal McGeough, terrific all game, banged home his side's second goal to give them a 2-7 to 0-5 lead.

Sub Martin Carroll's 56th minute goal confirmed victory with Mickey Morgan's side 10-point winners.
