Carey shows his class to steer Tipp through
TIPPERARY booked their place in a fourth successive final with a five-point victory against Limerick at Semple Stadium last night.
The Premier County will meet Kerry or Waterford in the final on Saturday week, March 27, still in search of a very first provincial crown at this grade.
Former All-Ireland minor hurling medallist Sean Carey, a current senior footballer with the county, was the star of the show with seven points, including six from play.
In front of just 200 spectators, Tipp played against the breeze in the opening half and were 0-8 to 0-3 ahead before David Ward's fisted goal at the Town End rekindled the Limerick challenge in the 29th minute.
Carey hit back with a point to hand Tipp a 0-9 to 1-3 half-time advantage and 13 minutes after the restart, the home side were well in command, leading by 0-12 to 1-4.
The visitors looked a spent force but then wing-back John Riordan netted a 44th-minute goal.
Seamus O'Carroll's fisted score a minute later brought Limerick to within a single point but that was the last time the Treaty men raised a flag as a run of four unanswered points secured the win for Tipp.
