Canavan fires Red Hand into final

Tyrone survived a siege of epic proportions to reach the final.

Down pressed incessantly in the final quarter, but Tyrone defended heroically to deny them.

Thomas Canavan's 30th-minute goal for Tyrone would have done his famous uncle Peter proud, sending his side in at the break with a 1-5 to 0-3 lead.

Down made the early running with points from Caolan Mooney, Danny Savage and Ryan O'Hare.

But Tyrone chipped away with scores from Canavan (3) and Ronan O'Neill.

They stretched the lead to eight through Harry Og Conlon, John McCullagh and O'Neill, but Down dominated the last quarter to narrow the gap to two.

But Tyrone held on and clinched victory with a Eunan Deeney point in stoppage-time.
