Campbell save crucial as Maynooth edge into semis

MAYNOOTH PP 3-10
C MHUIRE, GRANARD 2-12

Maynooth PP booked their place in the last four with a thrilling one-point victory over Cnoc Mhuire, Granard, at NUI Maynooth yesterday.

Three goals in five minutes -- a brace from Chris Canning and another from Neil Flynn -- got Maynooth PP off to a flying start. However, the Longford side fought back and goals from the deadly duo of Conor Madden and Aiden McElligot helped them to reduce the deficit from nine points to just two at the interval, 3-5 to 2-6.

Ten minutes into the second period the sides were level thanks to points from Madden and McElligot, but Granard were dealt a blow when they were reduced to 14 men just two minutes later.

Three successive points from Eoin Clarke, Rory Byrne and Canning gave Maynooth breathing space going into the final minutes but the Kildare men had to rely on a wonderful save from goalkeeper Cillian Campbell to ensure victory.
