Portlaoise paid a fitting tribute to the late Peter McNulty in O'Moore Park on Saturday night when they easily accounted for Stradbally in a one-sided contest.
It had been a traumatic week for the Portlaoise players as they buried their team-mate, but after a minute's silence was observed, they duly went and did what they do best: win football matches.
And when Peter's brother Malachy was introduced from the bench late in the game, he got a rousing reception from the massive Portlaoise support.
Paul Cahillane pointed within 30 seconds of the throw-in to set the tone straightaway for his side and with Cahillane, the returning Zach Tuohy and debutant Hugh Coghlan all impressing, Portlaoise were 0-8 to 0-0 in front at the break and completely in control.
Stradbally struggled to make any sort of impact on the game and Portlaoise remained in command after the break to run out comfortable winners. They can now look forward to a final against Arles-Kilcruise next Sunday.
