A battling NUI Maynooth side continued to upset the odds as they defeated a disappointing University of Limerick.
It was another massive victory for the Kildare side, as they followed up their opening-round win over Queen's University to book a semi-final berth against another Ulster giant, UUJ.
Laois county player and former Glasgow Celtic trainee Paul Cahillane opened the scoring for Maynooth with a long-range free after five minutes.
UL's Kerry midfield duo of Anthony Maher and David Moran, along with the roaming David Niblock, then began to exert their influence and Moran found the net when his low shot squeezed beneath 'keeper Shane Connolly. And when Brian Fox split the posts soon after, UL appeared to be in complete control.
However, they failed to convert their territorial dominance into scores and a host of poor misses followed. Indeed, they failed to register a score from play in the final 45 minutes.
Barry Mitchell and Karl O'Brien found the target at the other end to leave Maynooth trailing by the minimum -- 1-1 to 0-3 -- at the break.
In the second half the stingy Maynooth defence continued to deny a star-studded UL attack, while their forwards were very economic when presented with a sight of the target.
Na Fianna's David Quinn and his Lucan Sarsfields' namesake scored four points between them and Cahillane chipped in with a brace of frees. UL's only response was through a Paul Kennelly free as their campaign came to an early end.
