A devastating four minute minute spell in the middle of the third quarter saw Dublin ease into another All-Ireland semi-final as Monaghan's challenge fell apart in Croke Park.

For the fourth successive championship Dublin won by a double score margin to book a repeat of their 2011 All-Ireland semi-final with Donegal.

Goals from Diarmuid Connolly and Bernard Brogan, either side of an Alan Brogan point, between the 27th and 31st minute pushed the champions beyond recall as they claimed three successive kick-outs to punish Monaghan ruthlessly.

It was clinical from Jim Gavin's side, in contrast to their wastefulness in the second half when Connolly (twice) and substitute Cormac Costello spurned good goal chances.

Dublin were fortunate not to lose Eoghan O'Gara to a black card early on but he was central to the rout as he imposed himself physically against the Monaghan defence.

Monaghan defended impressively early on and were only 0-4 to 0-3 behind when the floodgates opened.

Once they had to chase that lead they were always going to be exposed and Dublin blew holes in them.

Dublin led by 2-8 to 0-5 at the break and it was only a question of what they would win by after that. In truth it might have been far greater than the 17 point deficit it finished at.

Monaghan's Dick Clerkin had a decent hour at midfield while Conor McManus was always an outlet for them but they just couldn't cope with Dublin's athleticism all over the field.
