Brennan's strike crucial

Clare made Longford pay for some woeful shooting at Cusack Park, where the visitors shot 16 wides.

Clare only managed a solitary second-half score after leading 1-6 to 0-4 at the break. They were 0-2 to 0-0 up by the fourth minute. Longford had to wait until the 11th minute for their opening score, a Sean McCormack free. The game's only goal arrived in injury-time from Gary Brennan.

In the second period Longford were first to score, a McCormack free. Clare replied with a similar score by David Tubridy.

The Leinster side added three further points before the end but Clare held out, despite losing Alan Clohessy to a second yellow card.
