black plus yellow will equal red, mcgee insists
chairman of the Football Review Committee Eugene McGee has confirmed that a player who receives a black card after a yellow card will be automatically red-carded with no replacement.
McGee was clarifying some confusion over the new concept, which was introduced at last Saturday's Congress.
There were suggestions that a player would be better off in receipt of a black card instead of a second yellow.
Meanwhile, Gaelic Players Association spokesman Sean Potts has stressed that a survey conducted on the FRC proposals, which found that 90pc of respondents were against the black card, was well known in advance of Congress.
Potts said the figure had been in the public domain on at least three occasions in various newspaper articles since publication of the FRC findings in December.
He was responding to Louth manager Aidan O'Rourke's expressed surprise that the results of the survey did not feature heavily in the media.
• Our permutations for Division 4 of the league in yesterday's paper suggested Clare were out of the running for promotion to Division 3. This isn't the case because they play London this weekend in a match deferred from St Patrick's weekend. If they win that and beat Limerick in the last game, they will be promoted.
