Black card set to provide plenty of opportunity for new year complaints

The signs for the introduction of the 'black card' sanction in football are ominous.

However logical it may appear to legislate for deliberate cynical fouling (and that's the sole purpose of the new rule), opposition will flow once the sanction begins to bite.

Already, managers are complaining about its impact on tournament games this month while calling for common sense to apply.

Of course, the managerial definition of common sense tends to equate to 'give my man a break'! Stand by for the first wave of concerted moaning when the provincial pre-season tournaments start on the first weekend in January.
