The Munster champions were greatly helped by three crucial goals in the opening minutes of both halves, with camogie star Lynn Dunlea getting two of them.

Her first came in the fourth minute and it was a settling score for the Cork girls who had been stung by a Gemma Fay point after only 17 seconds. Aided by the breeze, Ballyboden should have yielded a better return than two points from Síle Nic Coitir and Joanne O'Sullivan in 29 minutes.

A brilliant save by Tracy Rodgers in the Donoughmore goal from Fiona Ní Chorcoráin ensured that the Cork side led by 1-2 to 0-3 at the interval but only after 'Boden's superb goalkeeper Suzanne Hughes saved a penalty from Ruth Ann Buckley on half-time. Playing their fifth championship game in six weeks, Ballyboden suffered two killer blows within four minutes of the restart.

Firstly, a sweeping movement saw Juliet Murphy place Aisling Barrett for Donoughmore's second goal. Two minutes later the green flag was raised again when Dunlea toe-poked to the net.

After that Ballyboden could find no way through despite the fine efforts of Sorcha Farrelly, Síle Nic Coitir, Aisling Farrelly and Tara Murphy.
