Number of the Day: 1932 - the last year Clare beat Cork in a senior hurling final. That came in the Munster decider – the Rebels have won four finals between the sides since then (all Munster) in 1972, '77, '78 and '99.

THE VERDICT

John Spillane

(Cork singer/songwriter)

"I actually grew up across the road and three doors down from Jimmy Barry-Murphy in Wilton. He was five or six years older than me but we played soccer up in the field as kids.

"I was never brave enough to play hurling and I used to just stare at him in admiration. He was like a young Cuchulainn, a very charismatic man.

"It's so exciting to see two such vibrant, young teams in the final and I think Cork will win, but it'll be very tightly fought.

Verdict: Cork

FINAL QUOTE

"I have no idea. I couldn't believe it. I didn't understand it then but maybe I am not able to understand it. As regards yellow cards, it has gone crazy, it has gone mad altogether. But if that is the way they want it, that is the way they like it."

– Kilkenny manager Brian Cody speaks on Henry Shefflin's red card in the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Cork in July.
