Dublin bosses Jim Gavin and Ger Cunningham name their starting XVs for double-header
JIM Gavin and Ger Cunningham have both named teams featuring left-field selections for Sunday’s double-header in Croke Park.
Gavin’s named XV contains three debutants – David Byrne, John Small and Brian Fenton at full-back, centre-back and midfield respectively in his team to play Longford (4.0), a side shorn of some of his biggest names.
Rory O’Carroll and James McCarthy are out injured, while both Michael Darragh Macauley and Cian O’Sullivan are also absent from the side, though there was no mention of either player at Gavin’s weekly press conference yesterday.
Cunningham, meanwhile, has named Alan Nolan in goals in his team to play Galway, a surprise choice given his preference for Gary Maguire in Dublin’s last two competitive matches.
From the League semi-final defeat to Cork, Simon Lambert comes in for the injured Niall McMorrow and Danny Sutcliffe returns in place of Paul Ryan. Cian O’Callaghan and Chris Crummy will make their Championship debuts in defence.
