FIVE players who were sent off on straight red cards in an intermediate football championship match have all been suspended for one month by Wicklow's Competitions Control Committee.
Three of the suspended players are from Aughrim and the other two are members of the Eire Og club in Greystones. The incidents that led to the sendings off occurred in the final quarter of the match, which Eire Og won by a point.
The intermediate football championship match between Shillelagh and Ashford, which was abandoned at half-time by the referee because of the abuse he was receiving, was declared null and void. But when the CCC went to re-fix the tie, Ashford decided to give a walk-over.
Aughrim and Shillelagh will now meet this weekend to decide who goes through to the semi-finals of the intermediate competition.
