What the rule book says

The months of November and December shall be closed months for all games involving inter-county teams and collective training for inter-county panels.

The commencement dates for the collective training of inter-county underage teams shall, unless otherwise approved by Central Council, be as follows:

U-21 football: January 1

Minor hurling, football: March 1

U-21 hurling: May 1

Regarding above rule, the following regulations will apply:

1 -- Inter-county teams are permitted to hold up to two trials in the closed period but not involving any members of the current year's championship panel.

2 -- Trials must involve players from your own county and within your own county.

3 -- Trial or challenge games cannot be played against other teams, eg club and college teams.

4 -- Collective gym sessions are not permitted but players can be given private gym plans to follow during the closed months.

5 -- Team management should not stipulate the nights on which players attend gyms.

6 -- No expenses to be paid to players or management in respect of gym or other training (of an individual nature) during the closed months.

7 -- The sanction for failure to observe the rule (closed season) will be forfeiture of a percentage of a county's National League gate returns.
