Clare were thankful poor shooting did not cost them after they ground out a victory over Limerick at Cusack Park.
The Banner dominated but their 15 wides meant that a disappointing Limerick were in the hunt right up to the end.
The home side went in at half-time 0-5 to 0-3 in front following vital scores by Ger Quinlan and Michael O'Shea.
By the 11th minute of the second half, Limerick trailed by five after Clare centre-forward Shane McGrath landed a fine point off the side of his boot. But the visitors stormed back and reduced the deficit to 0-10 to 0-8 with four minutes left.
Limerick finished the game with 14 men after Barry Fitzpatrick was shown a second yellow late on. Sub Stephen Kelly kicked a fine point in injury-time but Clare held out.
