UCC ease past Athlone IT to reach Sigerson decider

Published 22/02/2013 | 16:17

UCC will face DIT in tomorrow's Sigerson Cup final after a facile 11 points win over Athlone IT in Athlone.

Billy Morgan's men qualified for their third final in four years following a dominant display.

A goal from James Giveney early on gave Athlone an ideal start and they led 1-3 to 0-3 in the first half.

UCC then took control thanks largely to the sublime free-taking of Kerry native Conor Cox and scored eight unanswered points to lead 0-11 to 1-3 at half time.

UCC gradually eased themselves clear in the second half and Conor Sweeney's 55th minute goal firmly put the game to bed to set-up an intriguing final tomorrow.
