Tyrone claim McKenna with second-half surge

Tyrone came from behind to win their first Dr McKenna Cup title since 2007 at the Athletic Grounds. A second-half surge saw the Red Hands cruise to victory over the holders, who had to play more than three quarters of the game with 14 men.
Derry opened out a six- point lead after Paddy Bradley had slotted a 16th-minute goal, but lost midfielder James Conway to a straight red card, and Owen Mulligan's goal helped Tyrone draw level at the break on 1-5 each. Mattie Donnelly (0-3), Cathal McCarron and Stephen O'Neill all hit quality scores in the second half.
Donnelly and namesake Mark both showed some delightful touches in attack as Tyrone triumphed with something to spare. Derry's late goal was merely of consolation value, with Cailean O'Boyle netting a penalty in stoppage time.

It took extra time to decide the Hastings Cup Under-21 Football Tournament final at Lynch Park in Abbeylara yesterday. After the sides were deadlocked at 2-8 apiece at the end of normal time, it was Cavan who finished the stronger to defeat Longford by 2-15 to 2-10.
Trailing by two points with time running out, Longford hit the front with a goal from defender Darragh Bennett but Cavan snatched a draw when substitute Nevin O'Donnell shot over in the 60th minute, then took over completely in extra time.
