the game at a glance

Player of the match

Sinead Hackett (Meath)

Lisa McCrickard and Sara-Louise Carr were outstanding throughout the game for the losers Down, while Claire Coffey and Fiona O'Neill were magnificent in defence for the winners. Hackett's early goal was crucial, however, while her two points were right out of the top drawer.

Turning point

Coffey's block on Sara-Louise Carr -- not long after the Down danger-woman had put her side in front with a stunning goal -- was crucial to the outcome of the game.

Talking point

The continuing progress of Meath . They are reaping the rewards for tremendous work in recent years. Also, the universal hope that Down will bounce back to make it third-time lucky next year.

Magic moment

Hackett's first point was a brilliant finish, but her second-half score was even better, finding the target from a tight angle.

Ref watch

Richard McNicholas contributed to a free-flowing game and got most calls right. He also kept up very well with the play
