The first of many replays

Dublin 1-11 Meath 1-11

The second match, a game that was expected to settle the issue, especially as extra time would be played, was a tense, tight battle all the way.

Mick Lyons got sent off in a clash with Vinny Murphy, but the sides were level, 0-10 each, at the end of normal time. Meath goalie Michael McQuillan saved a late, goal-bound Murphy shot.

Two minutes into extra-time Meath went ahead 1-10 to 0-11 when David Beggy got a goal. Brian Stafford added another point from a free. Nine minutes later, Jack Sheedy punched home a goal for 1-11 each. In the second period, with referee Tommy Howard and players going down with cramp, neither side got another score.
