DCU will feel unlucky to have come away with just a draw from their opening O'Byrne Cup match at Greystones.
With Paudge McWalter returning to the Wicklow team from a three-year injury, Harry Murphy's men gained the upper hand in the first half and a goal by Brendan McCrea gave them a 1-7 to 0-4 interval lead.
DCU staged a spirited fight-back in the second half and two rapid-fire goals by substitute Jack Brady and Jack McCarron in the space of three minutes brought the teams level for a third time on 40 minutes.
By then Wicklow were finding it difficult to mount any kind of meaningful attack, though James Stafford and Dean Healy did put them two points ahead with just 10 minutes remaining.
Brady and Brian Donnelly levelled for DCU with five minutes remaining and it was the Dublin students who had the late chances at the death.
