Stynes wife 'feared he'd die'

Jim Stynes' wife has revealed she thought he was about to die a fortnight ago when he took a turn for the worst.

The 45- year-old Dubliner, who carved out a brilliant career in Australian Rules, was diagnosed with cancer over two years ago.

His wife Sam told an Australian radio station she was very concerned about him two weeks ago. However, he has battled back and attended last Friday's International Rules game, where he got an emotional reaction from Irish and Australian supporters.

Stynes, one off the most famous players in AFL history, is now using a trial drug which medics hope will make a big difference.

"I wouldn't say I'm flying. I've been belted a bit in the last three to four months, but I'm just coming back up again. I can feel the last two weeks I've had a bit of a break and I'm starting to come back out again," he said.
