Smith inspires Sarsfields in feisty affair
St Laurence's 0-7
KILDARE SFC SEMI-FINALs
Kildare star Alan Smith scored seven points as spirited Sarsfields dethroned county champions St Laurence's to reach their first final since 2007, after a feisty affair that saw three red cards in Newbridge, on Saturday.
Smith scored four points as Sarsfields worked up a 0-5 to 0-3 lead, but the game could have changed when midfielder Alan Barry was sent off after clashing with Dessie Lawlor.
But Sarsfields continued to threaten in the second half and led by five after 41 minutes. Laurence's then had their best spell and reduced the deficit to two with points from Padraig O'Neill and Lawlor.
Sarsfields were reduced to 13 men when Conor Tiernan was harshly sent off on a second yellow. But the game was up for Laurence's when their substitute Cian O'Brien also saw red five minutes from the end.
