Shields keeps Castleknock alive after another epic

(After extra-time)

CASTLEKNOCK and Kenmare Shamrocks served up another classic at Leahy Park in Cashel as their semi-final replay once again finished level.

The final – Ballinasloe await the winners – was pencilled in for Saturday at Croke Park, but that will have to wait.

Castleknock star Ciaran Kilkenny, the man who turned his back on the AFL, and Kenmare's former Kerry panellist Paul O'Connor scored 10 points apiece.

Castleknock looked primed for victory in the second half when the deadly Rory Corcoran netted, but Kenmare's run of seven unanswered points turned a five-point deficit into a two-point lead.

Castleknock responded to force extra-time and they could have won it as Corcoran's late free drifted wide.

In extra-time, Castleknock moved three points clear only for Kenmare to hit back and lead again.

However, Tom Shields' late leveller for Castleknock tied the game for the eighth and final time.
