Returning star Murphy rules supreme for gritty Carlow
CARLOW football received an early boost with this unflattering six-point win over a fancied Wicklow side at Dr Cullen Park on Saturday.
Carlow's returned Aussie Rules player Brendan Murphy was the game's dominant figure at midfield, the big Rathvilly clubman contributing a crucial 1-2 from play.
Mick O'Dwyer's side were fortunate to lead 1-4 to 0-6 at the break, their 30th-minute goal gifted to full-forward Seanie Furlong. Carlow hit the woodwork four times in that first half.
Points from midfielder Sean Gannon and outstanding wing-back Alan Curran put Carlow ahead early on resumption and goals from Murphy and substitute Eoin O'Toole clinched a commendable home win.
