Plans snag for Rossies

Roscommon's hopes of building a GAA centre of excellence have hit a snag after an appeal was lodged against planning permission for the development.

The Roscommon County Board hope to develop up to seven full-size pitches as part of ambitious scheme planned for a site at Oran.

However, while Roscommon County Council have given the plan the green light, that decision is being appealed to An Bord Pleanala by a family who live close to the site.

The project at Runabracken in Oran -- about 15 kilometres west of Roscommon in the Castlerea direction -- also includes training areas, a running track, changing room and meeting facilities.

A spokesperson for Roscommon board said that they were hopeful of a favourable outcome when the matter is considered by An Bord Pleanala.

"The centre would be a huge addition to the GAA in Roscommon, so we are hopeful that the way will be cleared in the coming months for it to be developed," said the spokes-person.

An Bord Pleanala are obliged to reach a decision by December 22.
