An excellent performance from Irish soccer international Kevin O'Connor helped St Peter's College into the Leinster Colleges SF quarter-finals after a battling success over St Mel's at Stradbally.
Wexford school St Peter's looked set to squeak through with a one-point victory, but a fabulous long-range strike at the death from St Mel's lynchpin Larry Moran forced extra-time.
Battling against the wind in the first half, Longford's St Mel's found it difficult to gain any foothold in this contest and by half-time they trailed by three points. Moran found the net after a goalmouth scramble and Mel's grabbed two more goals in the early stages of the second half, but St Peter's refused to be pushed aside.
In extra-time they finally put their stubborn rivals to the sword thanks a brace of points from Donal Shanley and a late goal from O'Connor.
