St Flannan's paid the price for squandering three gilt-edged goal opportunities as St Brendan's clung tenaciously to a lead they established early on in Charleville.
Among the missed chances was a penalty after 37 minutes, which brought a fingertip diving save from St Brendan's goalkeeper Andrew O'Connor, and the resultant '45' came back off the woodwork.
St Brendan's started better and led by 0-3 to nil after 20 minutes – it was 23 minutes before the Clare side registered their first point, when outstanding centre-back Aidan McGuane raced upfield and showed his forwards how to score.
By half-time St Brendan's led by 0-6 to 0-1.
It was a different matter in the second half as St Flannan's dominated, but they could not turn their pressure into scores, and the Killarney side held on with relative ease.
