ALAN BROGAN returns from his wedding celebrations in Leitrim on Wednesday to football duty tomorrow – against the Dubs.

But Blues fans need not worry. Brogan hasn’t declared for another county.

It’s just that the half-forward is a member of the Dubs Stars side that plays Pat Gilroy’s Dublin team in the annual New Year’s Day fixture.

The game, preceded by the Dublin hurlers against the Dubs Stars hurling team, will be played at St Brigid’s GAA club in Russell Park, Castleknock (3.15).

Brogan made the match of a lifetime during the week when he and his partner Lydia Rock walked up the aisle, but there won’t be too many hugs and kisses at Russell Park.

This match, featuring the Stars, who were selected as the best players on the Dublin club scene this year, is an opportunity for Gilroy to check on the form and fitness of his panel plus eye up potential new talent for the year to come.

For the players, it will be a chance to impress the management team.

So, despite the early-season nature of the fixture, there will be no lack of commitment.

Paul Brogan, younger brother of Alan and Bernard, gets a chance to show his pace at fullback for Dublin, who also include James McCarthy and Cian Mullins, who were on the All- Ireland U-21 winning team this year.

The Dubs Stars are backboned by Dublin champions and Leinster finalists Kilmacud Crokes, who have Rory O’Carroll, Cian O’Sullivan, Brian McGrath, Niall Corkery, Liam Og O hEineachain and Brian Kavanagh on the starting 15.
