Murphy keeps cool from the spot to break Cavan hearts
Glenswilly 1-8 Cavan Gaels 0-10
Cavan's search for a first Ulster club title continues after Glenswilly talisman Michael Murphy's injury-time penalty left them broken-hearted.
Glenswilly played catch-up for most of the match, but never gave up the ghost and will play Monaghan champions Latton next time out.
Spot-kick hero Murphy netted after midfielder Neil Gallagher was upended in the square just as he was about to pull the trigger.
With county ace Michael Lyng bagging a brace, the Gaels led by 0-6 to 0-3 after Sean Johnston's finely judged free sailed over the bar in the 23rd minute.
The decision by the Glenswilly brains trust to relocate Murphy onto the '40,' though, was to have a pivotal effect on the game and points by Darren McGinley and Gary McFadden helped draw the visitors level, 0-6 to 0-6, at half-time.
The Gaels worked overtime to get back in front, but they spurned two good goal chances, which seemed to knock the wind out of their sails.
The Cavan champions were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal, even after going 0-10 to 0-8 in front after 56 minutes when impressive substitute Conor McClarey pointed.
The Gaels looked set to hold out, but 30 seconds into added time, the totemic Murphy fired home a cool penalty to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
