Munnelly stars in Laois stroll

Laois 0-15 DIT 0-7

A fine second-half display saw Laois ease to a comfortable eight-point victory over DIT at McCann Park in Portarlington.

After a dreadful first half, the sides were on level at just 0-4 each but Laois found the target in the second period and picked off a succession of splendid points -- with the visitors only managing three scores and two of them coming in the dying minutes.

Ross Munnelly was in fine form for Justin McNulty's side as he finished with three great points from play.

Wicklow's John McGrath led the way for the students in attack but they struggled in midfield -- where Darren Maher and Kevin Meaney were in control -- and, apart from McGrath, made little impact against a resolute Laois defence.

Despite dominating the opening half the Laois attack were off-colour and time and again squandered scoring chances but the introduction of Padraig Clancy after the break at full-forward made a huge difference.

Scores came at will with Munnelly, MJ Tierney, Paul Cahillane, Darren Strong, Davy Conway, Conor Boyle and Darren Maher all hitting the target as they pulled away to victory.
