Molloy lands killer blow to crush limp Red Hands

Donegal 1-10
Tyrone 0-6

Donegal raided Healy Park and got away with both points, thanks to a disciplined, defensive display.

The men from the north west remain unbeaten in Division 2, while Tyrone are still looking for their first point. The Red Hands bid to make an immediate return to Division 1 could now turn into a battle to avoid relegation.

After a bright start, Tyrone faded and scored just two points in the final 55 minutes, both from frees.

It was 0-4 to 0-1 by the time Sean Cavanagh, Martin Penrose and Peter Harte combined in a sweeping move to send Enda McGinley in for a point, but the many Tyrone supporters in the Healy park crowd of 3,902 saw little more in the way of inventiveness from their side.

Jim McGuinness made a couple of changes to his defence and it all came together for the visitors.

Knocked

Skipper Michael Murphy had a hand in all three scores which brought Donegal level, converting a free, floating over a gem from play and winning the free which Colm McFadden knocked over.

The impressive Karl Lacey made ground on the right for centre-back Leo McLoone to hammer over the lead point, but they were all square at the break on 0-5 each after Penrose scored another free.

The visitors struck for the crucial score three minutes after the restart, when substitute Dermot Molloy nipped in to drive home.

Cavanagh's 53rd-minute free was all the Red Hands managed to register in the second half, while their opponents had points from Molloy (two), Murphy and McFadden to win pulling up.
