McVeigh goal the catalyst for comeback
DONEGAL stunned Roscommon for the second year in succession with a fine second-half performance in Athleague.
Sean McVeigh's 43rd-minute goal proved to be the catalyst for the Ulster side's recovery. They trailed by three points at the break but McVeigh's green flag eroded the deficit to a point.
Donegal's momentum couldn't be halted and Ciaran Mathewson proved to be deadly accurate from frees, especially in the final quarter.
Roscommon depended on Gerry Fallon for scores and the Oran player contributed 0-10 from frees. Two inspirational points from Micheal Kelly helped the home side into a 0-10 to 0-7 interval lead.
However, a better balanced Donegal side took over on the resumption.
McVeigh's goal kick-started the revival. Danny Cullen, Jamesie Donnelly, Enda McDermott and Mathewson's frees kept the scoreboard ticking over as Donegal booked a place in the semi-finals.
