Derry skipper Emmett McGuckian found the net twice at Celtic Park last night as the Oak Leafers demolished the challenge of Monaghan.
Derry dominated the first half and kicked three points from Benny Heron, Conlan Bradley and McGuckian inside the first five minutes.
Monaghan got off the mark after eight minutes with a Thomas Kerr free but by the time they scored again, the game was beyond them.
Fergal Duffin and McGuckian both found the Monaghan net and Heron, Rory Moore, Aaron Devlin and Chris Spiers all raised the white flag to see Derry lead by 2-7 to 0-2 at half-time.
A Monaghan comeback never looked likely and when Kerr missed a gilt-edge goal chance on 41 minutes, Derry went up the other end and Benny Heron set up McGuckian to fist to the net.
