Basketball's 'back court' rule worth adopting
"It's certainly not an overreaction. Players now are better than ever in so many ways, but the skills they are being asked to practice by coaches are the wrong ones.
"The handpass has a place, but it can't be the core skill of the game and this is something that has been coming in for the last 10 years or so and didn't just happen at the weekend.
"Retaining possession at all costs is the key and players play with fear in their back pocket. Players had got used to the punchpass by the end of the league last year, but they didn't hold their nerve at Congress and I think that could have helped. Maybe they could look at some variation of the 'back court' rule in basketball where once the ball crosses the halfway line, they can't go backwards behind it again."
