Martin Breheny: Low scores a bad omen for future
The post-match disgrace at last Wednesday's St Mary's Belfast v NUI Galway Sigerson Cup game, in which attempts were made to get at the referee in his dressing-room, rightly commanded headlines, but it also diverted attention from another sobering reality.
Two teams, brimming with talent and who had been training for months, managed a total of 0-11 (NUIG 0-6, St Mary's 0-5) and, of that, 0-3 were frees.
Coming five months after Dublin and Donegal managed just 0-14 between them in a particularly poor All-Ireland semi-final, it makes you wonder where exactly Gaelic football is heading.
