MIDFIELDER Aidan Malone bagged a hat-trick of goals as Clare strolled to victory in the Munster MFC at Cusack Park, Ennis, yesterday evening.

There was never any doubt about the outcome from the moment Tony Kelly set up Malone for his first goal after just two minutes.

The Kilfenora clubman scored his second goal from a penalty kick in the 19th minute after a Waterford defender was penalised for touching the ball on the ground.

Waterford produced their most impressive periods of play after that and Emmett Power was on hand to slot home a goal after full-forward Paul Whyte forced a good save from Clare keeper Darren Sexton. That left them trailing at the break by 2-4 to 1-5.

However, a very poor second-half showing saw them only register one score, a point from a free by Whyte, while Clare went on the rampage.

Malone grabbed his third goal at the mid-point of the half and Niall Hickey had the ball in the Waterford net for the fourth time with six minutes remaining remaining to complete a comfortable win.
