Lowry shines in Gallen 'total football' display
Gallen CS, Ferbane 4-13
Colaister Bhride, Carnew 1-5
Leinster VS SF 'A' Final
Gallen CS produced an awesome display of total football to demolish Colaiste Bhride by 17 points and secure the title at O'Moore Park yesterday.
The Offaly school gave a superb exhibition of football, with complete dominance in every area of the field.
They were in control from the start, with the decisive score of the game coming from Eoghan Lowry, who rippled the net in the 25th minute to cancel out a dubious penalty converted by Brendan McCrea.
Lowry was the star of the show kicking 1-6, although midfielder turned-full-forward Leon Fox rattled the net twice.
Gallen's defence was excellent, anchored by captain Conor Lowry and the powerful Daragh Corbett. Joe Maher was the workhorse, picking up countless breaks and also on hand to kick any frees that required a sweet left peg
Carnew were never really in the game and only scored three points from play.
Gallen had the game pretty much in the bag at half-time, leading 2-5 to 1-1.
They kicked on at will in the second half, with Brian Grehan and Aaron McDonagh kicking a brace of points each.
Wing-back Shane Costello and Leon Fox both added goals, and Lowry was dead-eyed from frees.
Gallen wasted very little ball around the middle of the field and had a set game plan that Carnew couldn't break down.
The quality of ball put into the forward line was exceptional and with each forward out in front every time, it was a matter of how much they would score in the end.
The Leinster crown can now sit proudly beside the Leinster Junior trophy won last year in Gallen's bulging trophy cabinet.
