Longford ease past London
Longford 1-15 London 0-8
Paul Barden and Sean McCormack lifted Longford to the top of the table as they cruised past London at Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford.
The forward duo were on fire for the visitors, scoring 1-11 between them, with Barden finding the net 12 minutes from time, before his brother David was sent off late on for dissent.
A late scoring burst saw Longford lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval but they should have been home and hosed by half-time. McCormack and Paul Barden both spurned gilt-edged goal chances inside the opening quarter, which allowed London to stay in touch.
Longford moved up a gear after the restart, scoring 1-6 without reply to make the game safe. London's sloppy passing and unforced errors were ruthlessly punished, with roving wing-back Shane Mulligan stretching the opposition and creating space for McCormack and the Barden brothers to exploit.
On 58 minutes Barden grabbed the game's only goal. The centre-forward picked up the ball on the '45' and darted through the home defence, brushing off flailing London challenges before picking out the bottom corner of the net.
Longford took their foot off the gas late on, allowing London to end almost half an hour without a score and double their tally. David Barden was then dismissed for foul language towards referee Declan Corcoran, but it was never going to affect the final result.
