Kirwan gives masterclass to help mighty Clonmel oust St Brendan's
Tuesday December 01 2009
A MASTERclass from midfielder Tom Kirwan helped Clonmel CBS to victory in yesterday's entertaining final at Mallow.
Kirwan scored 1-6 for his side, as well as providing good fielding and strong running, while Clonmel were also aided by a good return from their half-forward line of Kevin Kirwan, Michael Meagher and Michael Connolly.
Despite a good performance from centre-forward Conor Keane, and a solid display from their full-back line, St Brendan's of Killarney found it tough to live with the extra size of their Tipperary opponents.

However, early on it looked as if Brendan's were on course for their fourth win in a row in this competition, when Keane converted a fourth-minute penalty.
Once Clonmel scored four unanswered points -- including three from Kirwan -- to put them in front, they would not trail again and by half-time their lead was 0-8 to 1-2.
The game as a contest was ended inside the first five minutes of the second half.
First Meagher pointed before Tom Kirwan profited from a handpass from Jason Ryan and finished well, and then Kevin Kirwan made it 1-12 to 1-2.
That 10-point margin would be how it would stay until the end as Clonmel ran out easy winners.
