Kehoe dishes out harsh lesson

Carlow 2-14 UCD 0-11

IT was very much the Paudie Kehoe show at Dr Cullen Park on Saturday as the St Mullins clubman scored 2-9 (2-3 from play) as Carlow qualified for the semi-final with a nine-point win over visitors UCD.

Such an outcome looked unlikely at half-time when, after an even 35 minutes, UCD had edged 0-7 to 0-5 ahead.

Carlow manager Kevin Ryan rang the changes at the break, bringing in four subs -- Kevin Kehoe in goal and outfield players Craig Doyle, Andrew Gaule and Eoin Minchin.

The changes worked as Carlow took control. Kehoe, playing at left full-forward, struck for his brace of green flags in the 40th and 60th minute and, as the UCD challenge faded, Carlow eased through with subs Gaule and Minchin also making the scoresheet.

UCD's wing half-forwards Cian Waldron and James Foley were joint top scorers for the college side, with 0-3 apiece.
