Donegal manager Jim McGuiness has moved quickly to appoint a new backroom team to assist him with the relaunch operation required after this year's disappointments.

Former Donegal players Damien Diver, John Duffy and Paul McGonigle will be McGuinness' assistants following the sudden departure of Rory Gallagher, Francie Friel and Maxi Curran early last week.

Diver lined out in 36 championship games between 1996 and 2006, a period in which Donegal lost four Ulster finals. Duffy featured in 1993-99, while McGonigle played for Donegal between 2001 and 2004. All three played alongside McGuinness at various times.

In fact, McGuinness came on as a sub for McGonigle in the 2003 All-Ireland semi-final against Armagh which Donegal lost. It was McGuinness'  last game for Donegal.

The new team will begin work immediately as Donegal look towards 2014, where they will start in Division 2 of the NFL.
