Dublin legend Jack Sheedy has been chosen as the man to replace Glenn Ryan as the Longford senior football manager.

The Lucan Sarsfields clubman takes over from Ryan who stepped down after. Longford's defeat to Wexford in this year's qualifiers.

Sheedy has no inter-county managerial experience but enjoyed success with Edenderry in Co Offaly winning a Division 2 league title in 2009, and in 2010 he guided Moorefield of Kildare to the senior football championship.

Sheedy won five Leinster championship medals in the 90s but missed out on Dublin's All-Ireland victory over Tyrone in 1995.

Sheedy will also take over as the Longford under-21 boss. No announcement has been made regarding his backroom team.

Longford will play in Division Three next year and have been drawn to play Offaly in the Leinster championship.
