In brief: Freeman an injury blow for Mayo
MAYO will be without attacker Alan Freeman for a month after he broke a bone in his hand in their Allianz NFL opener against Down.
The Aghamore rising star needed surgery following the game and is now expected to miss the next two league ties -- against Kerry and Galway -- as well as tonight's FBD League final against NUI Galway in Castlebar.
The final (7.30) pits new Mayo boss James Horan against a team that is not only managed by his former Mayo boss John Maughan but also includes several key members of the current county squad, including Alan Dillon, Peadar Gardiner and Neil Douglas.
Horan has made 10 changes to the side that drew with Down, with only Cathal Hallinan, Keith Higgins, Andy Moran, Enda Varley and Mark Ronaldson retained from last weekend. Aidan Kilcoyne comes in for the injured Freeman.
Keane accepts ban
KERRY will not contest the eight-week suspension proposed for Barry John Keane, who was sent off in their league opener against Cork last weekend.
The lengthy early-season ban will keep the young forward out until the penultimate round of the Allianz League as Kerry manager Jack O'Connor has confirmed that the player will not be seeking a hearing. Keane and Cork's Noel O'Leary were both red-carded but it is believed only a four-week ban has been proposed for O'Leary.
Treaty issue recall
LIMERICK hurling boss Donal O'Grady has gone back to the future for their Allianz NHL opener against Clare, recalling eight of the players who refused to play for Justin McCarthy last season.
Damien Reale, Stephen Lucey, Seamus Hickey, Donal O'Grady, James Ryan, Wayne McNamara, Niall Moran and Andrew O'Shaughnessy will all start on Sunday in what will be their first official game in the county colours since the 2009 All-Ireland semi-final drubbing by Tipperary.
Graeme Mulcahy, David Breen, Paul Browne and Nicky Quaid, who all lined out last year, are also among O'Grady's first starting 15, with Quaid in a new goal-keeping role.
