Hurley fires St Fachtna's into last four
St Fachtna's 2-6 Col Na Sceilige 0-6
Goals from Darragh Casey and captain Michael Hurley proved decisive as St Fachtna's de la Salle, Skibbereen saw off Colaiste Na Sceilige in Kenmare to advance to the semi-final.
Na Sceilige started brightly and raced into an early lead thanks to well-worked points from Sean Ó Suilleabháin and Dilan Ó Donnachú.
But when Fachtna's wing-forward Casey hit the back of the net after 20 minutes, the Cork school took control and led 1-4 to 0-5 at the break.
Na Sceilige were once again quicker out of the traps after the restart but they couldn't break down a stubborn Fachtna's defence.
The Jack O'Connor-coached school missed a glorious chance the one time they did get through, when Ó Suilleabháin played Fionán Ó Clúmháin in on goal, but the centre-back dragged his shot agonisingly wide.
They were left to rue that missed chance because 10 minutes later an excellent advantage played by the referee allowed Hurley to advance and he rifled his shot into the top corner of the net to kill off the game as a contest.
Na Sceilige continued to press in the dying stages but Fachtna's full-back line, who were outstanding throughout, held firm as they set up a semi-final meeting with DLS Macroom.
